ORBCOMM Satellite Communicators
ORBCOMM
communicators (SC's) are portable equipment which makes satellite VHF message
transmission and reception possible via the ORBCOMM satellite network.

Different
models of SC exist, they are chosen based on the job, on trucks, vessels,
construction machinery and mobiles in general or fixed installations in isolated
places. In all cases the equipment
is simple, low cost, easy to install and has low power consumption, permitting
long-term use with solar cells or batteries. Small size, sturdiness and a variety of casing options makes
them ideal for use in difficult environments or with strong vibration, meanwhile
taking up little space. Depending upon the latency requirements, antennae
can also be quite small. Installation and operation are designed for ease
of use. For further information on
antennas click here.
In cases when text messages are to be sent and received, a message terminal must be used, which on being connected to the RS-232 or serial port of the ORBCOMM Communicator allows the user to write and read the e-mail messages. The message terminals may be from a PC computer, PDA or specialized e-mail device such as the Marimsys VMS II modems.
