Maritime Reports
Marimsys has designed built and installed various types of reports useful to fishing industry control systems. These include the transmission of real-time fishing reports, on-board inventory, cargo-port data, the filing of exit and arrival governmental forms.
For a given data transfer need, a form is designed which functions on the vessel computer or directly on the satellite communicator. These interfaces are as automated as possible, cutting down the need for the operator to input data manually.
For instance in the real-time fishing report, the operator presses the button <Begin Trawl>, the Marimsys Real Time Catch Report automatically logs the Latitude, Longitude, Vessel Course and Speed, Depth (for long-liners typically seawater temperature is logged in place of depth), Wind Direction & wind speed. At the end of the trawl this same data is re-logged. As information of the specific species, products and quantities comes up to the bridge from the processing deck, this information is entered by a series of drop down boxes which show the species, and the amount of Tons / Kilos / Units is entered in the box beside the selected species. Then another species is selected and the appropriate quantity entered.
The system works with sized species such as tuna or on-board factory ship products, where the species entries are arranged so that “Yellowfin – pups”, or “Flounder – breaded - 400 gr flash frozen” appears as a species, and the number of units is entered. For fisheries where it is important to monitor by-catch, these species appear directly in the drop-down box for species selection.
Multiple reports may be in process simultaneously for situations where an individual Catch Report is open for:
The advantages of the system are:
Data arrives at the shoreside server and is directly written to an open database, immediately accessible to other inventory related software applications.
Eliminate use of HF radio for reporting, thereby avoid inherent connection problems and transcription difficulties.
Transmission costs – all data is compressed in proprietary Marimsys formats reducing the size of the reports.
The collected data is designed to be adequate to automatically emit required fishing reports directly from the system in the format required by the particular National Fishing Authority.
Database analysis of required products, cases, labels, knives, processing machinery repair indices can be performed to optimize processes.
Once the data has been collected in the shoreside database queries can be generated for fishing effort, incidence of by-catch, determination of the optimum area to fish at a given time of the year or in determined environmental conditions e.g. “In June with warmer water than normal, where do we catch the most / best fish”.
In order to tightly integrate production with marketing it is critical to maintain accessible data for all inventory in its various stages of processing. This can enable a company to make rapid adjustments in production to respond to market changes. Maintenance of the inventory database beginning with fish entering the vessel can optimize JIT production all the way up the productive chain. As a higher price for breaded fish fingers is noted by a sales representative in Germany, that information can be run through the database, the ability to fulfill other contractual commitments verified, and the orders emitted to skew production toward the short-term opportunity of breaded fish fingers in a matter of minutes.
The “Fishing Report” of Pesca Chile is such a report created by Marimsys.
