Different Types Of Charts That We Make
Marine Imaging Systems sells charting images based upon
satellite gravity and bathymetric data. We
also provide secure charting services from client
data, generally collected in the Marimsys BRIDGE system. When client data is
charted, to create "Marimsys Charts", the data and chart products are always the
property of the client.
Nautical charts are views of the ocean or sea surfaces, surrounding coastlines and
dangerously shallow portions that occur within the area. This sort of representation
of the oceans was begun at least as early as the Phoenicians to facilitate maritime
trade. Today's nautical charts, created to the standards of nautical cartography
developed over many centuries are currently undergoing great changes as the accuracy of
GPS and DGPS are factored into the chart creation process. These nautical charts,
or as we prefer to call them "Sovereign Nautical Charts" do an excellent
job of promoting the safety of life at sea.
All reasonably sized vessels have "Sovereign Nautical Charts" aboard for the purpose of navigation near hazards. Safety at sea is a tremendously complex area and is adequately dealt with by many private companies and governmental departments.
What interests us are other forms of images that can be used as charts and that expand the functionality of charting to bring more use to the work we do in the oceans. Charting to Marine Imaging Systems is a series of different types of images and systems that assist in the performance of other work on the worlds' oceans and waterways.
In the case of fishermen we work to, " lower the ratio of fuel expended to fish landed at the dock", in short - to increase efficiency.
For instance:
We create rapid and inexpensive bathymetry of the ocean bottom with our Marimsys BRIDGE System - this radically increases the amount of knowledge available to the bottom or demersal fisherman, allowing him to precisely fish in zones that are apt for his target species.
We create thermal charts of the sea surface and sea-bottom temperatures, both by instrument measured temperatures and with the use of satellite infrared imagery - if a fisherman or scientist is endeavoring to predict where fish will be encountered, this can save much effort and fuel.
We create various types of satellite gravity charts, showing the contours of the ocean bottom in unexplored areas. When fishermen seek fish far from known areas, the ability to go directly to the depths apt for their target species greatly improves the probability of success and efficiency of their trip.
We display fleets of vessels, either through radar or satellite positioning technology, to shore based fleet support personnel or to other vessels or "mother ships" with our SHORE BASE system. The positions of these vessels can be shown over the various types of Marimsys Charts enabling both position monitoring and fleet guidance.
Our chart image products are generally viewed aboard in the Marimsys BRIDGE chart plotter or ashore in the Marimsys SHORE BASE system, although they can be printed in various sizes, depending upon client need. Our systems are designed to show the vessel and its actions in front of a series of different charts for different jobs - including of course the Sovereign Nautical Charts which are fundamental to navigation and safety.
